Memorization Exercises To Boost Brainpower -- Braintenance -- Douglas E. Castle

Memorizing and being able to repeat certain types of sentences does more than build up your facility for rote memorization. The improvement in simple recall is actually the least of it! Memorizing the sentences which follow will strengthen your ability to visualize, organize and to think creatively. Memorize each of the seven sentences (or groups of sentences) which follow, one at a time. Then recite each one aloud several times. Get smarter, make more associative connections and have a bit of neural plasticity on the house! Ahoy, Braintenancers : 1) Let me repeat your order. You bought twenty apples, thirty oranges and fifteen bananas which you paid for using your Discover Card. 2) The parties agree that due to the many variables surrounding each business transaction that will occur because of this agreement, the commission to be paid between the parties may vary. 3) Contrarians don't generally agree with veterinarians who refuse to treat planarians with microscopic plantar wart...

Top 10 Formulas That Changed The World!

Image
While doing some casual research, I came across a wonderful article and video about the ten most significant formulas (derived from mathematics, physics, engineering, chemistry and a variety of other frequently disruptive and often controversial academic fields ) discovered since the beginning of time . I enjoy all of these disciplines, and have a great amount of respect for those for work at them, whether from a theoretical standpoint or from an application standpoint.. First, we have an embedded video player (which frequently fails to appear due to Murphy's Law , which was my late father's favorite -- the funny thing about this law is that it is interactive, and as such cannot be defeated -- for example, if I get onto a line at the supermarket that seems shorter, it will become longer than the other line that I would have chosen; or if I drop buttered toast on the carpet, it will invariably fall with the buttered side down): The other interesting thing about Murphy's L...

We Learn Viscerally And Mentally

If you were to ask everyone whom you chanced to encounter if the following two statements were true, you would mostly get answers in the affirmative. And yet, despite conventional wisdom , they are only partial truths: 1. The MIND is the seat of intelligence and learning, and, 2. The MIND controls the BODY. -- Just ask any ordinary person. He or she will likely confirm it (and perhaps even grin gratuitously). One would think that our bodies were robotic; that they are merely slaves to our minds . When meeting a challenge (i.e., running a race, lifting weights, making a presentation in front of a group, somebody's well-intended uncle invariably chimes in with, " You can do it , kid! It's just mind over matter !" If that were completely true (and I'll confess that I believe it to be partially true),   then how is it possible that:  Physical pain profoundly affects how we think and feel?  We can walk down a familiar flight of st...
