Sequence-Solving Hacks To Mental Growth

Image
Sequence-solving requires a great deal of mental activity -- it builds the knowledge base, pattern recognition, problem-solving, neuronal plasticity, memory and general intelligence. Here's a wonderful mini-challenge involving sequence-solving and a formula which can be used as a shortcut or a hack. Braintenance is a full-time occupation -- the more of it that you consciously, the more your uber-mind (i.e., superconscious) "takes the wheel" and replays the exercises. More than this, it tends to expand upon them, and experiment with them. Q: Find the next number in the following arithmetic series/sequence: 1, 2, 6, 24, 120, 720.... A: 5,040 Explanation : The numbers in the above sequence are factorials of the integers in order, i.e., 1!, 2!, 3!, 4!, 5!, 6!. The next one in the sequence would be 7!, which equals 5,040. Shortcut : The formula for estimating any n! is set forth below. If you memorize it, you can amaze your friends at parties and win bets at bars [although I ...

Renew Your Mind: Re-Establish Clarity And Peace

Your mind is largely what you you make it. Your thoughts are principally those things that you permit your mind to focus on and ruminate over, sometimes cycling or "kindling" them over and over to the extent of unhealthy distortion (psychologists like to call this extreme "if/then" enlargement of a possibility " catastrophizing "), obsession and the "crowding out" of your ability to cast your focus or place your thoughts elsewhere. More than 70% of the U.S. population (and this is likely an underestimate, gathered more anecdotally than methodically and subject to review) is taking prescription psychotropic drugs -- and this does not include those persons who self-medicate or share prescription medication with others. This statistic does not take into effect illegal drugs and non-prescription controlled substances . Nor does it take into account nicotine, alcohol, coffee or tea, all of which are psychoactive to some extent, and are addictive...

Meditation: Program Yourself For Success

Self-hypnosis, NLP , future visualization, subliminal suggestion and the notion of The Law Of Attraction may or may not be part of your belief system. I know that many of our readers of The Braintenance Blog are quite skeptical about anything that they cannot examine fully with their conscious senses -- even then they tend to be doubtful. There is nothing wrong with belief systems , unless they inhibit your self-growth, professional development , achievement of your objectives or your happiness. In such cases, subtle re-programming can and does work wonders. The secret lies in the ability to open your mind, suspend conditioned disbelief, and simply enjoy the experience. While great expectations are wonderful, they can set you up for disappointment. My preferred approach is to 'let the experience take me wherever it will,' and to just permit myself to let whatever happens happen. The best expectation orientation is to just enjoy the experience...to just let it enter you. After ...

ANAGRAM GENERATOR - Braintenance Entertainment

Image
Here at The Braintenance Blog we work you hard. We don't just supply mind agility games (as Lumosity does), but we make your mind work in a myriad of ways through a myriad of channels. A great way to have some lowbrow [nothing to do with beer] entertainment (as opposed to brain entrainment) is to create anagrams out of colleagues' and friends' names, or, if you are either a conspiracy theorist or merely an angry person who'd like to find "hidden meanings" or hilarious re combinations of brand or product names, this is your chance. If you are not familiar with anagrams, here's the Wikipedia definition, description and an example or two: An anagram is a type of word play , the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce a new word or phrase, using all the original letters exactly once; for example orchestra can be rearranged into carthorse . Someone who creates anagrams is called an anagrammatist . The original word or phrase is...
